2. Relevance - Connecting through topics that matter and are important to our lives

3. Relationships - Building community by doing life together on mission

4. Discipleship - Growing in personal obedience to become more Christ-like

5. Prayer-dependency- Seeing the value in praying together and for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ

2018 fall semester

Welcome to our fall semester! We are excited for a new semester and to see how God works through this ministry! We encourage everyone who is able, to participate in small groups. As followers of Christ, we are always growing…the sanctification process is life-long! One of the ways we pursue and live out gospel-centered community is through our small groups – this is an important part of the discipleship process!

Once you have signed up, expect to receive confirmation from your leader/co-leader via email, including information about your first group meeting (directions, syllabus, etc.). There are only so many spots available per group, so we encourage you to sign up early to be sure that there is room in your preferred group.

*Important things to note: Each group will last approx. 12 weeks (unless otherwise indicated) and will begin the week of September 9th. Some groups may have a small cost associated with them. Once you sign up and receive confirmation of your group – use the information provided in this packet to secure your materials. But please do not let cost be an issue in signing up for a group. If you need financial assistance in getting your materials, you can either let your group leader know when they contact you or send an email to Pastor Matt or Malea. Please note that childcare is available for several groups! We are looking forward to another great small group semester!

1. How to Understand & Study the Bible - Part 1

Sundays after church @ 11:00 am – Sanctuary **Please note this is a 13-week study**

Leaders: Matt Hantz

If you’ve ever felt like you just don’t understand the Bible, how to study it, or how to get the most out of it…this group is for you! This group will have more of a classroom feel and will go over the rhythm, structure, and purpose of each of the books of the Old Testament (the New Testament will be tackled in part 2). Additionally, different Bible reading/study methods will be discussed and practiced.

Requirements: Just your Bible

2. Philippians for the Family [For parents/children]

Sundays after church 11:00-12:00 – Basement fellowship space

Leaders: Vince Derr

This Small Group is a family group (kids ages toddler to elementary). As Parents it can be hard to set aside time in your busy day to have spiritual conversations with your kids. Philippians for the Family is a way the church can partner with you to disciple your kids. Phil Vischer, Founder of Jellyfish Labs and co-creator of the acclaimed VeggieTales, dives into the book of Philippians to answer the question, "Where does joy come from?" With the help of some animated friends, Phil unpacks what it means to live with joy both in times of happiness and in times of sadness. Since there are little ones, this group will meet for no longer than an hour.

Requirements: Just your Bibles

3. AHA

Sundays @ 6:00 pm - Van Buskirk home **childcare provided**

Leaders: Eric & Diana Van Buskirk

If you’ve ever felt stuck in your Christian life – then this group is for you. We’ve all had AHA moments in our lives – times when we suddenly realize or get something that we didn’t get before. The goal of this group will be to understand how we can have that same kind of AHA in our spiritual lives. Digging deeper into the sermon series (and the book, “AHA”) we will draw on Scripture to reveal how three key elements can draw us closer to God and change our lives for good.

Requirements: Your Bible and AHA book (provided)

4. The Truth Project

Mondays @ 6:30 pm - Davis home **Please note this is a 13-week study**

Leaders: Dave Davis & Deb Hesson

In a recent study, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that only 9 percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview. Because of this, today's believers live very similarly to non-believers. We spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life's ultimate purpose really is. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.

**Due to the content, this group will meet for two hours each week.

Requirements: Just your Bible

5. Resolved - [Women’s group]

Mondays @ 6:30 pm - Close home & REFIT class every Tues & Thurs @ 5:00 am - Skating Rink

Leaders: Haley Close & Colleen Finch

You're about to embark on a life-changing journey, both spiritually and physically. Resolved unpacks ten life-impacting resolutions that every follower of Jesus Christ must make in order to stand strong in the shifting sands of our culture. This study will also help us understand and eliminate the disconnect between what we say we believe and how we live, while offering biblical strategies for change that will allow us to stand strong--no matter what. We’ll also grow together in fellowship as we worship while working out! Because believe it or not, God doesn’t stop working on your heart as soon as you walk into the gym. On the contrary, every day and in every possible way, God is in the process of drawing us closer to himself. Join us as we transform the way we live, by becoming strong in what we believe and living it.

8. I Like Giving

Tuesdays @ 6:30 pm - Marzen home

Leaders: Shane & Stacie Marzen

Choosing to live a generous life can transform you and the world around you. Something incredible happens when giving becomes your own idea, not something you do out of duty or obligation. When you move from awareness to action, miracles happen. As you make giving a lifestyle, you’ll realize you’re not only loving life more, you’re also creating a more generous world— a better world for all of us. I Like Giving invites you on a journey to experience the joy of a generous life. It will challenge you with fresh ideas and engaging conversation that will help you understand generosity in ways you've never considered before. Beyond money or things, giving can be a listening ear, a touch, or simply the gift of time. Giving is living. This group will incorporate service projects throughout the duration.

Requirements: Your Bible, access to RightNow Media and book I Like Giving ($10)

Do you have any hurt, habit, or hang-up that hinders your walk with God and holding you back in life? Are you ready to do life different?

A HURT is an emotional response to another person’s behavior or to a disturbing situation such as abuse (emotional, physical), co-dependancy, divorce, relationship issues, etc.

A HABIT is an addiction to someone or something – alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, sex, shopping, work, etc. An addiction is anything in your life that is not under the control of Jesus.

HANG-UP’s are negative mental attitudes that are used to cope with people or adversity. (anger, depression, fear, unforgiveness, anxiety, etc.)

Healing is available through Jesus and applying the principles of this Christ-centered recovery in our lives.

Requirements: Just your Bible

10. Judges - [Men’s Group]

Wednesdays @ 8:00 pm - BHC

Leaders: Mark Johnson & Ryan Davis

The book of Judges cracks a window into depths of the human soul. Watch a nation struggle with its identity and relationship to its God. Heroes and heroines arise, who seem to have the potential to save Israel. But in the end, each proves to be a broken savior that cannot deliver.

In this RightNow series, pastor and author J.D. Greear wades into the book of Judges to shine a light onto the muddy waters of human rebellion. The stories and truths within are not just archaic tales with no relevance for us today. Rather, J.D. works through each chapter unpacking the truth of God’s grace in the midst of human wickedness, and shows how only the divine can redeem the fallen.

Requirements: Your Bible & access to RightNow Media

11. AHA

12. The Gospel of John

Thursdays @ 6:30 pm - BHC

Leaders: Brent & Barb Geater

Where do you turn when the world around you grows dark? In this study of the Gospel of John (chapters 1-11), Dr. Tony Evans encourages us to turn to Christ by reminding us of the two purposes for the beloved disciple’s book—that we would believe in Jesus and find life in His name. Despite what our culture may argue, there is only one hope that is truly trustworthy and that is our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Requirements: Just your Bible

13. Fearless

Thursdays @ 6:30 pm - Hummel home **childcare provided**

Leaders: Eric & April Hummel

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear. They're talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn't it be great to walk out? Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less. Can you imagine your life without fear?

Requirements: Your Bible and Fearless book ($9)

14. You & Me Forever

Thursdays @ 8:00 pm - Chvala home **childcare provided**

Leaders: Aric & Lacey Chvala

Marriage is great, but it's not forever. It's until death do us part. Then come eternal rewards or regrets depending on how we spend our lives. In this study, Francis Chan joins together with his wife Lisa to address the question many couples wonder at the altar: How do I have a great marriage? Setting aside typical topics on marriage, Francis and Lisa dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls.

In the same way Crazy Love changed the way we saw our personal relationship with God, You and Me Forever will radically shift the way we see one of the most important relationships in our life.

Requirements: Your Bible and You and Me Forever book ($11)
